Celene Yohemas is a freelance percussionist, drummer, composer and educator. Diverse, unique and charismatic, Celene captures the audience with her unexpected power. She has performed in many genres including classical, rock, blues, pop, jazz, country and world. She currently performs with bluessmyth, and continues to take on new projects.
Celene won a 2006 Betty Mitchell award for "Best Composition and Sound Design" with the Green Fools Theatre collaborative "Dancing on Water", and was composer, sound designer and musician on stage for ATP’s PlayRites production of "Picking Up Chekhov" (2006). Other theatre credits include Green Fools Theatre's "Crossing the Mediterranian", and David Rhymer's "Why Freud Fainted".
Celene is part of the music education teams at Strathcona Tweedsmuir School, Centennial High School and St. Francis High School, and has taught as a sessional at the University of Calgary in Music Education. She has taught for several summers at Rachelle Van Zanten’s Rockergirl Camp inspiring young women to create music. Celene teaches private lessons, is a sought after percussion clinician, and accompanies dance classes.
