Brand New Summer Day Camp!!

Beat the end of summer boredom with a Rock Camp for Teens aged 13 - 17.  This camp is for a range of skill levels from beginner to advanced students. No matter what your skill level, a great attitude and willingness to learn is a must!

What is camp going to be like?

Morning warm up will start the day to get everyone ready to play, followed by some time to work on instrumental skills. In the afternoon we move into band sessions, writing original music and learning a couple of your favourite songs to perform at the end of the week.

You will meet new people, form friendships, learn new skills, and play a lot of music!

This camp is about being creative, having fun, learning new things, and working on rock and roll skills like guitar, drums, bass, keyboard and vocals.  It is about exploring new ideas, writing and presenting your own music. It is being open to the unexpected joys and challenges of working as a group. There is no better way to expand your skills as a musician than to play with other musicians!

Expectations:

1) Be the best you can be each day. Give it your all!
2) Bring in a good attitude, leave your ego at the door!
3) This experience is inclusive, not exclusive. We want everyone who participates to enjoy the experience. Diversity and originality are strongly encouraged.

Who is teaching?

Bass/Guitar:

Jason Yaholkoski was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where you either play hockey or a musical instrument. He chose both, making hockey a hobby and music his career. As a bassist and guitarist, Jason has voraciously studied his favourite artists including Jaco Pastorious, Billy Sheenan and Flea. Through the experience of transcribing music from CDs, along with continuously playing with other people, Jason's skills developed into the sound you hear today in bluessmyth. His first serious band, Chains on 20, released the album "Finally" in 1996 which toured Canada and received critical acclaim. For the past 10 years he has been a part of the Calgary music scene playing with bluessmyth who have released 3 albums "30 Pieces of Silver", "bluessmyth", and most recently "Sola Gratia" which toured the country this past winter.

Drums/Arranging:

Celene Yohemas has had a diverse career as a percussionist, drummer, and educator.  As a freelance artist she has played with many groups including Alberta Winds, the La Jolla Symphony, and New Works Calgary in the classical realm, has won a Betty Mitchell award for composition with Green Fools Theatre, composed works and performed with ATP, and has recorded albums with  Tabitha, The LoveBullies, Deliria, and most recently bluessmyth. As an educator she has developed her own charismatic style and is a sought after clinician in Calgary and around Alberta.  She toured the country this past winter promoting "Sola Gratia" with bluessmyth, and in her free time has been developing music programs to help all of her students to learn more easily and logically.

Vocals/Keys:

Johanna Sillanpaa

Without debate and by all accounts, music has always played a major part in the life of Johanna Sillanpaa, as she carries with her a strong and sultry voice, and continues to make her mark on the international music scene.

Originally from Sweden, Johanna who is nominated for Best Female Vocalist in the 2010 “Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards” has been described as “ a bluesy Erykah Badu with a marvelous voice that begins in the smoky lows of Norah Jones and effortlessly climbs into the powerful, confident ranges of Lisa Stansfield.”

Johanna’s critically acclaimed solo albums ‘Good Life’ & ‘One Wish’ have received rave reviews from around the globe and are both a sizzling indication of who Johanna is and that her passion for music is continuously bold and her dedication is undeniable.
