    Suggested Books for beginner/intermediate percussionists:

    For Snare Drum:

    Stick Control - George Lawrence Stone. This classic helps gain stick dexterity. It uses some of the same stickings building skills. Great for warm ups and rudiment builders

    Syncopation - Ted Reed This is great for learning rhythms for EVERY student.

    • It has a ton of rhythmic studies, and gets into syncopated rhythms and how to read them in all their forms.

    For Mallets:

    Modern School for Xylophone, Marimba, Vibraphone by Morris Goldenberg. Many good building exercises starting in the key of C and going into all keys. Gradually more difficult exercises.

    For Tympani:

    Fundamental Method for Tympani - Mitchell Peters

    Modern Method for Tympani - Saul Goodman

  • Below are some Jazz exercises for drummers:

    Where to start? Use a grid to move beats around. Start with getting 4 quarter notes, and work from there.
